Maturity
Maturity is more than acting your age. It includes many things, ranging from work, to be responsible enough to pay your bills. For one to be mature, they need to undergo many changes, such as responsibility, work ethic, and learning to not blame others for their own mistakes. “We have not passed that subtle line between childhood and adulthood until we move from the passive voice to the active voice -- that is, until we stop saying "It got lost," and say "I lost it." A quote from Sydney J. Harris. This quote is perfect to define maturity. Instead of saying, it got lost, say I lost it. Many people in the United States are now in debt. A term that means you owe more than you can afford to pay. Some cases may be accidents, where something happens in the family, and they cannot pay the hospital, or other kinds of bills, but many of these, are from careless spenders, with there credit cards, not realizing how much trouble they are getting themselves in. Being mature is about knowing your limits, and not spending to much. Maturity has little to do with age, but mostly with the mind. The mind needs to grow as its gets older, and tell itself to be more flexible, and not a toddler refusing to eat his peas. Many kids, and teens run wild. From drugs to alcohol abuse, from simply not doing homework to turning in test blank. In these situations there are often more than one not mature person. The teen, or kid, who refuses to learn that he needs school, and that it will help him get somewhere, someday. The other immature person in this situation are the adults. The adults that are not being there for their kids, and not helping them through some of the hardest times of their lives. Maturity is giving in, giving up, and letting go, when you realize that its not going to happen, or it wont work. Sometimes its hard to be mature, but it will make one a better person. Maturity is helping someone out, or doing something for a greater cause. Sacrificing your time, energy and money for a good cause, or to help someone else out. I remember one time, after a bad hailstorm, me and my dad had to help some people fix broken windows by putting plywood over them. The hail had turned to rain, and by the time we were done, I was mad, cold, and wet, three things I really didn’t enjoy being. Now, I realize that this was being mature. Knowing that I didn’t have to be there, I didn’t have to help fix broken windows, it was still the mature thing to do. Being mature can be easy in some situations and hard others. Knowing your limits, and helping someone out, easy. Being there for your friends, helping them do right from wrong, and keeping away from drugs can sometimes be hard. I am sure, that if you have good friends, good parents, and good supervision, then I bet you can be mature, in more ways than one.
