Sports
I was walking down a hallway. Many doors aligned on each side. Each door held behind it, a life impacting moment in my life. I decided to walk into a door labeled sports, as I believed it would cause many good memories to come back to me. When I first opened the door, I heard some rock music. The door opened inward, so I could not yet see the middle or the right side of the room, but on the left side, had many newspaper clippings, and many televisions were hung. Headlines were on all the newspaper clippings, they all had to do with wins, and good games of mine that I had played in the past. They had many of our most intense games, and the wins that we enjoyed from them. It also gave me feelings of accomplishment. Each television had replays playing, and they had the best highlights of my, and my teams athletic career. The door still opened slowly, and revealed the middle of the room. The middle of the room had mediocre news clippings, and replays with not-so-sweet replays. They were mostly wins, but some occasional loses. Most had blowout wins, and very boring games, that were not intense, and I recorded very little playing time. The fast rock music transformed into a slower song. The song was not sad, but not happy either. The door finished opening, and the whole room was now exposed. The right side of the room had newspaper clippings from other teams. “Triad Trashes Tigers”, “Northeastern beats WL-S”, were some of the headlines. Reading the articles brought back memories I wanted to forget. Painful tournament game loses, rivalry game loses, striking out, missing shots, the feelings of not playing to my ability, and the feelings of letting your teammates down haunted me again. The song had already slowed down to a melancholic sound. It was almost depressing. I looked over the whole room again, from my greatest achievements, to my worst failures. Finally I realized why this room was a life changing event. It technically wasn’t an event, but multiple events. But from playing sports, I have learnt many lessons of not only friendship, but in other things too. Some of the friends I have made, with be some of the greatest friends I ever will have. I would trust all of my teammates with anything, and I am sure they would say the same thing. This room also changed my life in other ways. It helped me realize that life goes on. If you win, or if you lose, life will still go on. Winning an losing isn’t the important part isn’t the reason to spend hundreds of hours each year to train, and practice for the next season, or the next sport. The real reason is to earn respect from your teammates, and to possibly meet the most trustworthy people you may ever meet.
